Hardback. First Printing. Book has the usual bit of discolorization to the blue endpapers and and a one inch by three inch area black ink stamp on the title page stating UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL PATIENT LIBRARY" This is below the printed text and is on an all white space area. This is the only ex-lib marking to the book, otherwise this is a very nice tight bright attractive copy in Very Good to Near Fine condition. Dustjacket is in Near Fine condition with no creasing, chipping or fading, just the slightest edgewear. $4.95 Original Price Is Still Present On The Front Dustjacket Flap and is Unclipped. The one stamp is the real shame to the book as it is in very nice collectors condition otherwise.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: fine. First Edition. Octavo, 248, [i] pages, clothbacked green boards; shows substantially less mottling under the dust jacket flaps than the other copy I have in stock - a characteristic, more or less, of copies of this edition; fresh, tight, appears unread. NOTE: this color change has been described as "mottled" or 'mottling". the dark blue of the endpapers is faded only under the dj flaps. In this copy "mottling" does not apply because it is not spotty or blotchy; but essentially uniformly lighter blue. You decide. Also, small crease dj flap lower corner. The first book by Crews. Ahearn's AUTHOR PRICE GUIDES reports only 4000 copies were printed. DJ blurb by Andrew Lytle, who mentored Crews in writing class. In the category of "Rough South", a.k.a. Grit Lit.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing of Crews' debut novel, inscribed by the author to the half-title "For Jim Wilkerson, Don't let the bastards beat you / Best (?) Harry Crews." New York: William Morrow & Co., 1968. Publisher's original green cloth, spine lettered in silver and black; pp. 248, [1]. A very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minor shelfwear and bumping to boards. Traces of foxing to top edge of text block with a minor spot of discoloration to foredge. The endpapers and pastedowns show the typical fading which is apparently inevitable due to the glue used in production. Else internally quite clean. The dust jacket shows light shelfwear with the laminate a bit pushed near the front flap fold. A nice copy, protected in archival mylar. Inscribed by Author(s).
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition. Notable first book by Crews, a novel peopled with sociopaths, a traveling evangelist, sideshow freaks and an escaped lunatic. Some very slight fading to navy endpapers (truly inevitable with this book), still fine in fine dustjacket.
