Blue boards, bright gilt stamped lettering to spine and front board, short .5cm closed tear at spine head with library shelf sticker affixed near heel. Library stamps and notations on front free endpaper and title page; ffep's top corner is clipped too. No other library marks readily apparent upon a quick perusal and interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. With illustrated endpapers, Preface, b/w photographs, and Index. Uncommon reference regarding the establishment and collection development of public libraries, college-university libraries, and some secondary school libraries in Mississippi but also includes information regarding some early notable private collections assembled by prominent residents and bibliophiles in the state. The latter subject is reviewed in the book's initial two essays "The Private Libraries" (pages 2-30) and "The Forerunners 1818-1900" (pages 31-45) both by Willie D. Halsell. {MS-Shelf#1}.
