A most attractive book that is creatively produced in two sections, one opening left, the other right, and presenting thus 50+ two-by-two (page) examples of black & white wood engravings of animal life by members of The Society of Wood Engravers, including Hilary Paynter & Paul Kershaw, plus Monica Poole, Miriam Macgregor, John Lawrence et al; plus two tipped-in fold-out reproductions of images of Noah's Ark. The background to this remarkable project is presented in the introduction by Hilary Paynter and Paul L. Kershaw. Hardback book, rectangular format: 13" x 6.5", with Ann Muir marbled paper covered boards, blue buckram spines, limited to 185 copies only: this is an out of series binder's copy of the book (binder: Stephen Conway). It is presented within a plain blue hard-cover and wrap-around portfolio. The book is in fine condition, however the portfolio is rubbed at edges, particularly around the title spine of portfolio case, but it still overall in near VG condition.
