Very light bumping at the tail of the spine and a light dust stain to the upper edge of the textblock. Map endpapers. Dust Jacket - has light rubbing at the head and tail of the spine and at the tips of the corners. 1/4" chip in the tip of each of the corners. 1/3" closed tear in the lower edge of the front cover. Previous owner has reinforced the interior of the jacket with masking tape. Illustrated by Alson Clark.

Memoir and travel chronicle of Vermont-born William Lewis Manly (1820 - 1903). In 1849, spurred by the gold rush, Manly set out along the Oregon Trail. On reaching Fort Bridger, he thought he could float down the Green and Colorado rivers to California. He did get to Arizona and then trekked across desert land, arriving in California.in 1850. These are sketches of his travels; lesser descriptions were collected in the Jayhawkers' Oath (949). In the course of his life, Manly was first a fur hunter and trader, a guide of Westward bound caravans, a seeker of gold, then a farmer and writer in his later years.

In scarce good condition jacket with some fading and light edge wear including a few tiny chips at spine ends. A water stain on spine with small part of stain evident on left edge of front cover. Not price-clipped. Usual standard age-toning to text. 524 pages.
