Hardcover w/ Jacket. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. This 8.75 x 11.25 inch, 160 page hardcover book with jacket is the first edition of this title in 1971. This copy is in strictly fine condition with not one condition issue worthy of mentioning. There is a previous owner's neat bookplate on the front pastedown but beyond that the tan cloth covers with red decoration and lettering is all but new, and the interior text block is also fine or better. The dust wrapper does show age wear with a bit of crinkling and one small chip at the spine and a touch of wear along the edges but overall the wrapper is in at least very good condition with the price unclipped. The book features many photographs from the early days of immigration into America through the time of massive migration in the late nineteenth century and into the twentieth. 160 pages.

SUMMARY - Twenty million men, women and children sought freedom and opportunity in America between 1855 and 1934. Most of them were poor, the harshness of their past lives stamped upon their faces. Here is their story, a tale of terrifying voyages across the Atlantic, humilating "processing" encounters with inspectors at Castle Garden or Ellis Island, their phenomenal struggles to gain a foothold in a new land.Strangers at the Door is an epic drama - told in poignant words and pictures - of one of the most vital and dramatic sagas in America's history. A deeply moving and provocative potrait of the foundation of our nation - its people.
