About the Author:
Jane Barnsteiner, PhD, RN, FAAN is the Emeritus Professor of Pediatric Nursing at University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing. She also served as Director of Nursing for Translational Research at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Director of Nursing Practice and Research at The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia. She was the founding editor of The Online Journal of Knowledge Synthesis for Nursing. She is one of the developers of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses Competencies, and is a member of the Joint Commission Patient Safety Advisory Committee and the National Quality Forum Committee on Patient Safety. Dr. Barnsteiner is a national mentor, a resource and a consultant for individuals and organizations on the implementation of research utilization strategies. She is invited regionally and nationally to inspire utilization of evidence-based practices. Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Clinical Professor University of Minnesota School of Nursing and is President of the American Academy of Nursing. She has extensive experience as an educator, chief nurse executive, researcher, leader, policy maker and spokesperson. Disch has held numerous national leadership positions, including board member and chair of the board for AARP, president of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses; chair of the University Healthcare Consortium Chief Nurse Executive Council; and chair of the American Nurses Association's Committee on Nursing Practice Standards and Guidelines. Currently she is a member of the Boards of Directors for the Aurora Health System and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. Mary K. Walton MSN, MBE, RN is the Nurse Ethicist and Director, Patient and Family Centered Care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and an Associate Fellow of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. She has practiced in academic health care settings for over 35 years and has a progressive history of leadership.
