Twenty-one stories of womyn's lives seen through the lens of an experienced psychologist. Whether the subject is a brilliant suicide, a rape recovery counselor finally acknowledging the abuse in her own history, a religiously zealous serial killer, a couple striving to dream the same dream, or a crusty old prostitute put out of her misery by an understanding client, the stories are told with empathy and tact and are devoid of judgment. You see how the distorted actions of people in distress seem to make sense. Your heart feels the pain you know is an ineluctable but unfortunate burden the victims bear. If you read these with dry eyes, call your therapist.

Review:
The power of these stories depends less on psychology than on the generous humanity Jones-Ryan brings to them. --Wayne Allen Jones, Fractal Edge Press, August 31, 2005
