About the Author:
D.L. 'Diane' Rogers grew up in New Jersey, with a natural love of horses and cowboys. She, her cousins and friends spent many delightful hours playing Cowboys and Indians. The Barbie doll was ignored! Coming from a family with both North and South heritages she found a love of history, especially the Civil War era. She and her cousins called themselves 'Yebels', each one having one parent from the North and one from the South. As a kid Diane loved to read. She read every Nancy Drew and horse book she could get her hands on. That love of reading led to her writing endeavors of today. At the present time, Diane lives south of Kansas City, Missouri, with her husband, five horses, two dogs and four cats. She has two wonderful children, Eric and Kristen, and a grandson Ryan.
Review:
War is ugly! And the American Civil War is the ugliest of all wars! Before a cannon shot was fired at Fort Sumner, Missourians and Kansans had been at war for seven bitter years. Both sides had had evil men, doing evil things, mostly for personal gain and fame. As a lover of, historian of, and and living historian of Civil War history, I had not purchased a fiction book in twenty years, however, I was recently compelled to read a few, and discovered I had been missing some great stories. One example is Tomorrows Promise: Survival on the Plains by Diane Rogers. Tomorrows Promise: Survival on the Plains is as historically accurate as many history books. It is evident Ms. Rogers has taken great pride in the historic accuracy of the work. Therefore if you enjoy reading about the Oregon Trail, Indians, survival, romance, adventure, Kansas City history, the Border War, Civil War or stories with a happy ending you can get it all in this one book. I recommend it. History strips itself of personalities, of individual struggles, of great stories of survival, and we soon forget that people made history. This book refreshingly reminds us and brings us back to that fact of human survival. It makes the struggle real to us again. --Jim Beckner, Civil War Historian
