Part of the highly-successful Anholt's Artists series about great painters, which tells the stories of real meetings between world-famous artists and the children who knew them. When Julie's dog disappears into a mysterious garden, Julie follows him - and finds herself in a beautiful garden-within-a-garden where the roses grow like splashes of paint and a Japanese bridge bows over a silent pool. There she finds not only her dog, but also Claude Monet. The famous artist introduces her to his work and his garden, giving her encouragement that the young would-be artist will never forget. Set against the romantic, world-famous backdrop of Monet's garden at Giverny, the story is accompanied by reproductions of the artist's most celebrated paintings and a biographical note on Monet.

From the Back Cover:
back cover
When Julie crawls into a mysterious garden, she meets an old man tending the flowers. The gentle gardener turns out to be the great artist, Claude Monet, and together they explore his magical world. Monet and Julie wander across the Japanese bridge, around the house and studios, and they float through water gardens where lilies sparkle as bright as stars.
Complete with reproductions of Monet's work, this is another inspirational story from Laurence Anholt's best-selling series, celebrating some of the world's greatest artists and the real children who knew them.

front flap
Julie is a happy little girl who lives in Paris, but she wishes she could walk in a country garden. She is pleased when her mother decides to take her to visit the most wonderful garden in the world, owned by a great friend of the family. They arrive at their destination, and for this little girl it is like walking in a dreamy world where twisting plants grow as tall as trees. When Julie's dog runs away, she asks the friendly gardener to help find her pet, and soon she and the gardener are friends.
But this amiable, bearded old man is a very unusual gardener, for not only does he cultivate his many plants, he also paints beautiful pictures of them. Julie has made a friend of the great impressionist painter, Claude Monet. Based on a true story about the daughter of another fine artist, Berthe Morisot, this charmingly illustratedpicture book includes reproductions by author-illustrator Laurance Anholt of a famous waterlilies painting, which Monet completed in his garden at Giverny, located 40 miles from Paris. Boys and girls lucky enough to travel to France can visit that garden today.
