About the Author:
Richard R. Joss is the former chief technical actuary for the employee benefits consulting firm of Watson Wyatt Worldwide. Mr. Joss has served as the Chairman of the Pension Committee for the Actuarial Standards Board and has given many speeches on retirement plan design and funding. He authored a monthly column the appeared in the Journal of Pension Benefits. Finally, he is the author of three recently published technical articles dealing with the purely mathematical issues in modern finance that are at the core of the recently seen problems. All of his mathematics degrees (B.S. 1968, M.A. 1969, and Ph.D. 1974) were received from the University of Washington. He and his wife, Cheryl Haak, reside in Bellingham, WA.
