It's time to dust the cobwebs off your cleats, rub some shaving cream into the ol' mitt, and head to the park for some batting practice. SOFTBALL FOR WEEKEND WARRIORS, a part of the new Weekend Warriors series from The Lyons Press, is guaranteed to bring you back to the ball field as sports aficionado Randy Howe explains everything from fielding techniques to the kangaroo court, from breaking out of a slump to working the umps.
With hilariously helpful chapters like "When You Just Don't Have the Skills to Pay the Bills," "But honey, look . . . I'm losin' weight!," and "Talking the Talk (Even If You Can't Quite Walk the Walk," this book will have sluggers of all ages itching to dig into the batter's box.
With the big balls, small fields, and the fact that you never have to run far or throw hard, it's a sport anyone can love. And in comparing softball to the national pastime, Howe says it best when he asks, "Have you ever seen a keg on the field during a baseball game?" A rhetorical question for sure, and that's why SOFTBALL FOR WEEKEND WARRIORS is the tongue-in-cheek guide all you bat heads have been waiting for.

About the Author:
RANDY HOWE is widely regarded as the greatest junior varsity Division III baseball player. Ever. In addition, his softball team won the Madison Beach and Rec "B" League championship in 2003, so he's thinking this pretty much guarantees his place in Cooperstown. Howe is the author of eight other books, including Golf for Weekend Warriors and Basketball for Weekend Warriors. He lives in Connecticut, but calls the hot corner home.
