To get into her brother Kelby's Northern Spy Club, Zoe Elwood must walk a narrow beam over rusted farm machinery, and then solve a crime. Her chance comes when Alice's grandmother expires after eating a bowl of pea soup. Kelby gives Zoe just five days to track down the poisoner. Can she do it?

From the Author:
Inspired by Nancy Drew, I wrote my first novel at age ten about the kidnapping of a pesky older brother - but my mother threw it out. I now redeem myself with the Pea Soup Poisonings, based on the adventures of my own four children and on the pea soup my husband used to make in five gallon vats and serve in a reconstituted chamberpot!
About the Author:
Nancy Means Wright is the author of thirteen books of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, including a young adult novel, Down the Strings (E.P. Dutton), a novella, Fire and Ice, (Worldwide Library), and five adult mystery novels from St. Martin's Press -all featuring earthy, hot-tempered dairy farmer Ruth Willmarth and her three children-Mad Cow Nightmare is the most recent. Nancy's short stories and poems, which have won several prizes, have appeared in numerous literary and popular magazines, including Seventeen, American Literary Review, Redbook, Yankee, Green Mountains Review, Carolina Quarterly, et al., and in numerous anthologies: Beacon Press, St. Martin's Press, Univ. of Illinois Press, Papier Mache, and elsewhere. Inspired by Nancy Drew, she wrote her first mystery novel at age ten about the kidnapping of a pesky older brother. Worried that her daughter might become a juvenile delinquent, her mother threw out that manuscript. But the author redeems herself with The Pea Soup Poisonings, inspired by early adventures of her four children - a sequel is in progress. She has also won a grant from the Society of Children's Book Writers for an historical YA novel based on a young ancestor who walked up into the Republic of Vermont, driving a cow. A former Bread Loaf Scholar for a first (adult) novel, Nancy currently leads book discussions for the Vermont Humanities Council and is on the faculty of the Champlain Young Vermont Writers' Conference. She has variously been a secondary school teacher, a college professor, a shop owner, tree farmer, singer, actress and play director. She is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, the League of Vermont Writers, et al, and appears in several Who's Who publications. She lives, writes, and rewrites on a dirt road in Cornwall, Vermont. You can contact Nancy at her website: www.nancymeanswright.com. She would love to hear from you.
