This book is divided into two sections. The first section contains interviews with the visionary leaders of several European businesses. It reflects the words of these leaders whose companies served as examples of transformation. It is their story, in their own words. It will allow each and every one of us to learn what we need, depending on our culture and position of observation. The second section of this book has two chapters that introduce the problems of managing the rapid rate of change in today’s globalized world, and then three chapters discussing eight principles for visionary leadership in this rapidly changing, globalized world. The two sections of the book are complementary but there may also be some redundancy. (They both deal with several of the same companies.) These two sections are the result of related but not closely coordinated projects; we hope any overlap provides the reader with greater insight by showing somewhat different points of view. Readers might view the first (interview) section as containing the raw data, albeit beautifully described and digested, and the second section as an analysis partially drawn from the data of the first section. We now invite you to enter and read this information, which explores transformation and will undoubtedly provide you with a few leads to enlighten your own transformational change.— Bertrand Jouslin de Noray, Secretary General of EOQ

From the Inside Flap:
It is a pleasure to launch this third in a series of three books on transformation. In the first book, The Transformation Desktop Guide, the reader is introduced to the basics of a transformation system as practiced by some of the best-run organizations in the world. In the second book, The Transformation Fieldbook, the authors, Stephen Hacker and Bertrand Jouslin de Noray, present coaching and guidance on implementing the key points of transformation.Section 1 of this third book, Transformation Case Studies, provides examples of transformation in organizations from Europe, Asia, and the United States. In section 2 of this book Shoji Shiba of Japan and David Walden of CQM provide interpretation of what these cases mean in the development of new approaches to breakthrough management. GOAL/QPC has been a leader for over two decades in discovering and developing the leading edge of quality and making it available to everyone. We have believed for some time now that the human dimension has been underserved in quality improvement. It is our hope that this trilogy on transformation will significantly improve the people dimension of an organization's improvement efforts. And finally, we believe this trilogy is an exciting addition to GOAL/QPC's growing suites of products on facilitation, teams, performance management, and project management.
