Where Is Baby? - Hardcover

PreS-K-A human baby sits on a carpet surrounded by his pets: a dog asleep in a basket and two cats. It's a familiar scene, but "some babies are found in unusual places." The rest of the book shows 11 different kinds of young animals in their natural habitats. On a closing foldout, listeners are assured that a mother always knows where to find her offspring. Back matter consists of three pages of additional information about the wildlife featured, and the science lessons are just right for a young audience: "A baby rabbit is called a kitten or a kit. A kit is hairless and blind when it is born; it opens its eyes when it is ten days old." The soft acrylic and colored-pencil illustrations are exquisite. Fur and feathers are so realistic that children will reach out to touch them. The creatures' eyes are expressive and their habitats are full and lush.
