Review:
I actually completed So Good It Hurts within 2 1/2 days after I received the book, and I loved it. The issues the author addressed are some that I can personally relate to, either directly or from someone close to me. Either way the issues are real to me and other Ladies, especially Black women. I love the fact that the book goes on the author s journey from being single to married, and everything in between. Although I am single (on my way into a relationship) I feel like after reading the book I now have a sneak peek into the married life (besides my parents), and some tools on how to be successful at it. I have seen very few examples of successful marriages, and of them, very few who are willing to share, so thanks a bunch to her for doing so. I feel a lot of books always focus on the drama of a Black relationship, but not giving the readers tools or suggestions on why and how to deal. That is why I love the chapter recaps. I appreciated the fact that it wasn't a male bashing book, but addressed the underlining issues like the following: 1) issue of women competing with one another over the prize...the man (who sometimes is not much of a prize) 2) Self worth/ Self validation/ self knowledge 3) Importance of God, He is the answer 4) etc. I could go on forever :) In this book Na Kisha never claimed to have THE answer to love, but some helpful tools for a healthy relationship, which I feel the reader will appreciate. Black America is ready for change and the truth, and she has accomplished both through this book. I have so much to say to you about this book and can t wait to share it with others. I pray that God continues to bless everything Na Kisha put her hands to. I also wanted to share this story with you. I have a younger cousin who is 18 and headed to college. My uncle (a pastor) and his wife never talk to her about sex, relationships, NOTHING! I do my best, but she is up north so it's kinda hard. But to make a long story short I had her read the book and we had a lllloooonnnggg discussion. This book brought up questions and concerns on her part that we discussed, as well as cleared up lies she had heard from her peers. I now feel more comfortable about her going to college after our discussion, not as naive as before. I would have done the talk anyways, but the book painted a bigger picture, in which I could add in my personal experience, as well as give her something concrete she could refer back to, when she can not get in contact with me. So Good it Hurts is the truth and it is indeed the New Guide to love and relationships. --Brandi Powell
