Review:
"Aberrant human behavior so often begins with cruelty to animals. More encouraging are the legions of decent, accomplished individuals--including world leaders--who are characterized by their respect for animals. This extraordinary book introduces you to members of that legion. You will be proud to walk among them." -- Paul Harvey, Paul Harvey News
"Andrea Gillan Wiebers and David Wiebers have searched out and compiled some of the most sensitive, cogent and moving comments written or uttered over the last two millennia about the interdependence of all creatures. Souls Like Ourselves is a wonderful testament to a powerful idea." -- Denis Hayes, National Coordinator of the first Earth Day and Earth Day 2000, President, The Bullitt Foundation
"Souls Like Ourselves is a testament to the rightful place of animals in the community of life. It is a compendium both exhaustive in scope and empowering in depth. One cannot read this book and not be moved to a greater compassion for all creatures with whom we share the planet. -- John A. Hoyt, President Emeritus, The Humane Society of the United States
"Souls Like Ourselves proves that the genealogy of compassion for all life springs from brilliant thinkers in the ancient world. The book then traces this enlightened tradition into the modern day, citing some of the wisest and most eloquent people humanity has ever known." -- Gretchen Wyler, Broadway actress, Founder and President, The Ark Trust
"This well-organized and carefully chosen selection of quotations draws the reader into an intellectual and compassionate community. A wide range of leading scholars, policy activists, and technical experts have been delivered here to deliver trenchant, useful, and often beautiful insights into the nature of the human/animal bond. There is no book out there like this, and anyone who seeks to make this a better world for all of us, humans and non-humans alike, should go out and buy this volume at once." -- Jennifer Leaning, M.D., Harvard Medical School, Physicians for Human Rights
