No Sword Fighting in the House (Holiday House Readers Level 2) - Hardcover

Arthur and Lance get into trouble when they stage a sword fight in their house. They are sent outside and decide to have a jousting tournament, riding on the backs of two local cows, until the cows prove obstreperous and trample their mother's daffodils. Despite the ruined flowerbed, their mother still wins a prize for her flowers from the aptly named Camelot Ladies Garden Club. This Holiday House Reader combines unlikely plot elements--allusions to the Arthurian legends and a mound of manure--in a sometimes challenging story that may baffle new readers. Fortunately, Kelley's colorful, clear illustrations help move the plot along and provide plenty of humor on nearly every page. Particularly funny are the easily distracted cows. The cover art, which shows the boys banging their swords, will also attract readers. Todd Morning
