Along with innovative identification keys and a glossary of botanical terms, William K. Chapman includes the latest research collected on these flowers. For instance, to allow for current classification changes, three varieties of Cypripedium parviflorum - yellow lady's slippers - are listed, as well as the recently recognized species of Platanthera huronensis, and Malaxis bayardii, and the proposed Platanthera pallida. The many color photographs in Orchids of the Northeast makes this book a visual - as well as a botanical - treasure.

About the Author:

William K. Chapman, a biology teacher and member of the adjunct faculty at Utica College of Syracuse University, is the author of Plants and Flowers: An Archival Sourcebook, Pheasants under Glass, and individual field guides to the trees, mammals, and birds of the Adirondacks. His nature photography has appeared in National Geographic and the New York State Conservationist.
