About the Author:
BRITTA TECKENTRUP has written and illustrated over seventy children's books, which have been published in over twenty countries. Her books include Tree, Bee, Moon, Ocean, and The Twelve Days of Christmas in the Peek-Through Picture Book series, as well as Under the Same Sky, which was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. Born in Hamburg, Germany, and educated in London at St. Martin's College and the Royal College of Art, she currently lives with her family in Berlin. PreS-Gr 1-With rhyming text, vibrant illustrations, and small-scale cut-outs that little fingers will love, this book introduces young readers to a variety of creatures that live in the ocean. Each page contains two simple lines that rhyme, and each two-page spread captures one animal or thought. For example, "Gleaming and sparkling, the coral sea/Is a place of magical mystery./As the ocean's tides ebb and flow,/ A secret world lies deep below." Children will be introduced to a variety of marine creatures: lionfish, sea horses, puffer fish, great white sharks, dolphins, humpback whales, and manatees. The narrative jumps somewhat randomly between creatures that live near a coral reef and those that are dwellers of the open ocean.
